¿Cómo puedo usar las limitantes de la cerámica a mi favor?
Además de pasar del bocetaje al modelado a la elaboración de un molde y el proceso de vaciado de barbotina (completamente nuevo para mí), tuve la oportunidad de experimentar con diferentes tipos de acabados, desde esmaltes hasta pátinas y engobes. Parte de mi fascinación hacia la cerámica radica en el hecho de que, aunque se sigan las instrucciones al pie de la letra, siempre habrá ciertos elementos ajenos a nuestro control que modificarán el resultado final. Este elemento de azar es inspirador, ya que el resultado final puede ser algo totalmente diferente a lo que uno tiene en mente. No hay nada más emocionante que abrir el horno y ser sorprendido por los resultados.
How can I use the limitations of ceramics to my advantage?
Going from sketching to modeling to creating the mold and the entire slip-casting process (completely new to me), I had the opportunity to experiment with different types of finishes, from glazes to patinas and slips. Part of my fascination towards ceramics is that you might follow instructions perfectly, but there are still some external elements outside of your control area that influence the final result. This element of chance is inspiring, because the final result might be something completely different that what you had in mind. There is such a rush in opening the kiln, waiting to be surprised!

The manufacturing process was slip-casting done on a four-piece ceramic cast mold.
El concepto es la combinación de la fluidez del agua y las formas orgánicas de las hojas.
The concept for these bowls is combining the fluidity of water and the organic shapes of leaves.
Éstas piezas fueron seleccionadas para ser parte de la 4a Bienal de Cerámica Utilitaria, en el Museo Franz Mayer de la Ciudad de México.
These pieces were selected to be part of the 4th Biennial of Functional Ceramic Art at the Museo Franz Mayer, in Mexico City.
Una vez que las piezas ya habían sido sancochadas, se esmaltaron usando diferentes colores, antes de pasar a la quema final.
Once the pieces were bisque-fired, they were glazed using different colors and fired one last time.
