¿Cómo retomar elementos de exploraciones de forma 2D previas y aplicarlas en el diseño de un objeto funcional?
Tenía el interés de retomar las exploraciones 2D que había realizado durante mi maestría y hacer algo con ellas, algo tridimensional. Desde el inicio el resultado de este gradiente de formas me resultó sumamente atractivo, por lo que decidí retomarlo y hacer una mampara con él. Esta propuesta ganó una Mención Honorífica en los International Design Awards (IDA) 2015 en Los Ángeles, California.
How to revisit previous 2D form explorations and apply them in a functional piece of furniture?
I still had within me the curiosity of revisiting the 2D form explorations that I developed during my MFA in Design R&D stage and make something with them, something three-dimensional. Ever since I finished this gradient pattern I was really drawn towards it, so I decided to go ahead and design a screen or room divider with it. This proposal won an Honorable Mention at the International Design Awards (IDA) 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
Después decidí acomodarlo en un patrón degradado, de lo más recto a lo más curvo.
Then I decided to place it in a gradient pattern, from the most straight and orthogonal shapes to the curved ones.
El patrón resultante al final habla de la transición de lo compacto y físico a lo ligero y etéreo.
The resulting pattern speaks to me about the transition from the heavy and physical to the ethereal and light.
Todo empezó como un catálogo de lo que se podía hacer con la computadora, jugando con escalas, repetición y líneas curvas y rectas.
It all started as a catalogue of what could be done with the computer -playing with different sizing, repeated elements, and both straight and curved lines.
El objeto producto resultante fue una mampara divisoria que, por la ligereza visual, se puede adaptar a diversos ambientes.
The final result is a screen that, because of its lightness, can adapt itself to different ambiances.

According to the Popol Vuh, the Sacred Book of the Mayans, Bitol was the god of the sky. Among the creator gods, he was in charge of shaping things and participated in the last two attempts to create humanity, first from wood and later from corn.
